NaNoWriMo is coming

Andy points out that National Novel Writing Month is coming up. The idea is to write fifty thousand words between November 1st and 30th. That’s a little over fifteen hundred words a day, and I think I could handle that. Hell, I’ve got nothing else to do. If I post my progress I won’t even have to slow down my blogging output, I’d just make that output much, much worse.

I’ve got some rough and much too short ideas in my head. It would be a comedy/sci-fi/dectective thing, kinda like Douglas Adams’ Dirk Gently series. Or, if the comedy became too droll and dark, it’d hopefully turn out like something Philip K. Dick.

Either way, it’s guaranteed to suck and provide lots of laughs as it progresses.

  1. Oooh, I’d read that for sho!

  2. Hey dude, I’ve done this the last two years. I’m wondering whether to do it again this year as due to the new position I have way less time… have to see.

Oh, I forgot to say: man, it’s awesome. I can’t even describe how I felt after pumping out 10,000 words in two days the first year. Or when I punched through 50,000 words. Just cool. Do it!

  3. Garth,

I was working a pretty hectic job last year and was still able to churn out an obscene number of words (118k). I actually found that lack of free time made it easier. I didn’t have to balance it against doing anything else. It was wake up, go to work, come home, write, go to sleep, repeat process.

If I am still unemployed this November, I don’t know if I’ll be as successful. Ironic.

  4. Wicked

I’ve just finished Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. This was recommended to me…
